The Loire by bike
Listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site, the Loire Valley can be followed along the Loire by bike route. Starting from Orléans, Combleux and then Chécy, riverside villages line up guinguettes, pontoons and terraces. A bike date along this trail, with a stop in Jargeau to try the local andouille, makes for a refreshing day easy to share.
Orléans Forest
The Orléans Forest, the largest state-owned forest in mainland France, unfolds over more than 35,000 hectares of oak, pine and ponds. Forest roads invite easy walks and deer-watching in autumn. A picnic near the Ravoir pond or the Vallée pond makes for a natural date, far from the busy trails and urban noise.
Nearby Sologne
To the south of the département, the first Sologne landscapes already hint at heathland, ponds and brick villages. Birdwatching outings, short hikes and family-run tables abound. On Lyad, members from the Loiret share their favourite walks; it is up to you to find someone to pull on your boots and enjoy the quiet.
